In order to succeed on purpose, in other words deliberately succeed, you need to find a strategy that works for you and keep applying it until you achieve the success that you desire.

The new year always brings with it a sense of new beginnings – a fresh start, a clean slate, and a chance to do things differently and achieve those goals you’ve always wanted for yourself.

1. Know Thyself

Socrates said it in the works of Plato in 370BC1 and it’s as true today as it was then. To “know thyself” means to come to an understanding of who you truly are inside and out – because it is exactly that keen insight and level of self-awareness that can help you play to your strengths and overcome your weaknesses.

2. Integrity

Can you say with the utmost confidence that you are living with integrity, and in the most authentic way possible? Integrity means that when you think, say and do the same thing, authenticity means living with integrity and feeling the same thing as well. As Dr Seuss says, “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”

3. Shine

When we make the choice to go beyond what we think we are capable of, when we go past the limits of our endurance – that is when we truly come to realise our capacity for excellence, and our ability to SHINE.   As Marianne Williamson says, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do.

4. Self-Mastery

Do you believe in self-mastery? Do you believe that you have the infinite power to control and manage your state; to influence the way your mind and body affect each other? Self-Mastery is about overcoming your limitations, your re-activeness and moving to choice. You get to choose your self-acceptance, your directed passion, your acceptance of reality, your curiosity, your impact on others and your global connection. In other words you choose to respond and thus achieve the results that you choose.

Success for the new year starts with a KISS. Know thyself, live with integrity, shine, and learn the importance of self-mastery, and you’ll be firmly planted on the road to success over the coming months.
